A Simple Weight Loss Story from Erin O’Neill APD

Once a dieter, always a dieter.  Does that ring true to you?

Hi, I’m Erin O’Neill.  Before I became a weight loss dietitian, it was certainly my story. I yo-yoed and went back and forth between fad diet after fad diet. I was tired, hungry and frustrated. Sometimes I briefly saw results, but then the scales shot up again, and I tied myself in knots, being consumed by thoughts about calories and exercise. I was not enjoying my life, and I wasn’t healthy, no matter how many times I tried to tell myself I was.

It’s no life, let me tell you. But I think that if you’re here, you might already know.

Why I Chose to Be a Weight Loss Dietitian

Did I mention I was tired? I wasn’t just tired because I wasn’t giving my body the fuel it needed. I was tired of taking part in a systemic body-shaming culture that meant women, particularly as busy mums, need to be absolutely tied to the scales and spend every waking moment wishing themselves thinner. And that is why I’m the best online dietitian for you!

I know this mindset is not healthy. It doesn’t promote growth, happiness or calm. Instead, it promotes anxiety, fear, depression and self-loathing. So I’m here to flip this mindset back to where it should be.

As part of my job as a weight loss dietitian, I have worked in some of Queensland’s largest hospitals, assisting people with various health conditions. But, I dreamed of creating a safe space for women that encouraged them to meet their body goals in a healthy, holistic way. I dreamed of creating an eating plan with no restrictions or calorie counting, a program that allows women to free themselves from this trapped and tortuous way of thinking.

Moving Towards Self Worth

I’m a weight loss dietitian who practises online, which means I can work with you remotely or in person, which is particularly convenient for busy mums. I’ve helped busy mums who’ve come to me, often in tears, and talked about the pain they’ve been through. Restrictive diets, over-exercising, and sacrificing precious time with their family just so they can desperately drop three dress sizes in a matter of weeks. I’ve even talked to women who restricted themselves so much that they’re starving and unable to function.

It does not have to be like this. It’s time to be kinder to yourself!

The way I teach is different. As a weight loss coach, my way is gentler. It promotes self-esteem and allows you to see your worth beyond the scales. It’s a way to get healthy and stay happy. This is a way that lets you socialise, parent, be a partner, a friend and be the best version of yourself possible while losing weight and feeling good.

When we starve and restrict ourselves, we starve our brains and lose control of our emotions. This is a new and healthier way to protect your mental and physical health and carve out a safe space where you treat your body like the miracle that it truly is.

I’m excited that you’re here reading this. It means you’ve taken the next step in the right direction. I hope I can be a part of your weight loss journey and support you towards becoming your best self, and I look forward to meeting you, whether that’s online or in person.

Here’s What My Clients Say

“I stopped myself from eating emotionally. When I did eat some sweet food I stopped after a little bit, reminded myself that this food wouldn’t help and might make me feel sick, but I was kind about it.”

“Erin helped me improve at recognising biological hunger and eating in response to it instead of when I’m sad or lonely.”

“I’m doing more physical activity and not hating it. I’m feeling full more easily – either my body has caught up to how much fuel I need or I’m better at interpreting the signals.”

“I’m getting better at reframing negative thoughts into positive ones and recognizing when my expectations are rigid and unreasonable.”

“I now have the ability to leave my plate with food on it when I’m at the point of satisfied instead of finishing the meal and then feeling overfull. I’m not as distracted either at meal time so that’s more conversation and catch up time for us.”
